Membership Categories - Frequently Asked Questions

Modified on Wed, Mar 11 at 3:15 PM

This article answers many common questions people have about our membership types and categories, and which membership option is the best fit for them.

Who can be on my membership?

YMCA memberships are designed for people who share the same household, including immediate family members or roommates living together.

Because family and caregiving situations can vary, staff may use reasonable discretion when determining whether individuals with close family or daily caregiving roles may share a membership.

Please note that membership dues cannot be split between multiple parties, and Flexible Pricing scholarships account for the entire household — not just individual members within the household.

What are the age ranges for each membership type?

Under 18 - Membership for individual children ages 0-17

Young Adult - Membership for individuals ages 18-29

Adult, 2 Adults, 3 Adults - Membership for individuals or groups of 2-3, ages 30-64

Senior - Membership for individuals ages 65 and up

Senior Couple - Membership for 2 adults where at least one member is 65+

How many children can be on my family membership?

Our family memberships allow for up to 10 children who are currently residing in your household to be on one family membership together.

How old can my children be and still stay on my family membership?

Anyone up to age 25 in your household is still considered a "child" when it comes to our family membership category, and may remain on your family membership. This aligns with typical health insurance guidelines, allowing dependents to stay on parents' insurance until age 25.

Can I have multiple children on a Youth (Under 18) membership in my household without buying a Family membership?

We allow up to 2 individual youth (under 18) memberships in one household. After that, you would need to upgrade to a Family membership.

Do both members of a Senior Couple membership need to be 65 or older?

No, only one person in the Senior Couple membership needs to be 65 or older to qualify for the Senior Couple membership. However, both members should be adults - for memberships with one senior and one or more youth, the best option is our Family membership type.
